On September 5, 2018, Pierre GHEWY, Christophe BENAVENT and Hiriata BROTHERSON of the CETOP met with representatives of Tahiti Tourism to present them with a new tool to assess tourism development.

They are received at the headquarters of Tahiti Tourism in Papeete by:

- Hinarere TAPUTU, Community Manager of Tahiti Tourism

- Alice IZAL, Communication Manager of Tahiti Tourism

- Tumateata BUISSON, in charge of Webmarketing for Tahiti Tourism

Christophe BENAVENT is a Senior Lecturer in Management at the University of Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense.

While on mission at the University of French Polynesia in September 2018, he took advantage of his stay to develop, in collaboration with Pierre GHEWY, a new tool for assessing tourism development, which they call "barometer of social feeling".

They use Topic Analysis and Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) techniques for this purpose.

Based on comments left by users of booking platforms such as TripAdvisor.com or Booking.com, this tool allows us to evaluate according to certain algorithms, the general feeling of travellers/consumers towards an establishment or a destination.

Still in its development phase, this tool will soon be presented to hoteliers in French Polynesia who could use it to identify current trends and possible prospects or development paths to follow.

This tool will be exhibited to the public at the 3rd PIURN conference at the UPF from 8 to 10 October 2018.

This meeting allowed CETOP's teacher-researchers to present the results of their first reflections to Tahiti Tourism but also to discuss the lack of analysable data.
